概念設計是依據"設計思考方向"，所提出的"解決方案"。概念設計是由分析用戶需求到生成概念產品的一系列有序的、可組織的、有目標的設計活動，它表現為一個由粗到精、由模糊到清晰、由抽象到具體的不斷進化的過程。透過概念設計這個步驟，大眾得以預先窺見設計產出前，整體風格的建立。關於概念設計的趨勢與看法，在亞洲各國之間針對此議題如何呈現，希望藉由各國總編輯的見解，看到在設計與創意上，各種合作與發展可能性。

CUTOUT是建立在「平面設計是普遍的，有趣的」的這一個想法。作為馬來西亞當地首屈一指的平面設計雜誌，抱持著「探討在每一頁的設計可能性」的主張，為各界的平面設計師，每季出版和緊湊的大小，裁切提供了實用的訣竅。

CUTOUT涵蓋範圍從平面設計到任何的與設計有關的流行文化主題，這些包括功能的採訪，藝術品展示和知識性的文章，其目的是為了娛樂，啟發和將問題和事件的重要性，告知讀者。像這樣的出版需要比新聞寫作更精湛的佈局，它需要很大的激情，衝動，精力和為視覺溝通的訣竅。

CUTOUT每年出版四次（二月，五月，八月及十一月）。

林偉杰 Jay Lim ：平面設計師/CUTOUT設計雜誌創意總監（馬來西亞）

21歲自馬來西亞設計學院畢業，即投入夜店擔任平面設計師，奔放自由的設計風格，立即再圈內引領風騷，受到不少注目，之後便受邀擔任新加坡著名4AS廣告公司專屬設計師。在累積了許多不同領域的經驗後，Jay開始創作關於文化層面的作品，2008年發表了以上海為題材的 MS HUA 1950.並自世界各地展出與分享創作經驗。

2010年創辦了馬來西亞首本平面設計雜誌，並任教於齊藤美術學院。

The occassion: As window display in conjunction with new local picture book titles and [Longhouse Days], all launched at the same time @ Kinokuniya.

Display period: 1 month - 21 Feb 2011 onwards

This longhouse replica, which took us about 4-5 days to complete, is made from raw materials like dry leaves and combined with the technique of graphic design that makes bamboos look so cool. Saves us all the trouble going into the woods and chopping off bamboos with parang in our hands. No real bamboos were sacrificed for this project. Other material used: paper, foam boards, styrofoam and glue.

"Thinking back of that (first) interview I had with R.AGE in 2007 kind of reminds me of how much have happened – good ones and bad. The last time we met, I was very much into finding my destiny. Designing T-shirt was just something I did during my pastime since I had to work to make ends meet," says Jay.

A few weeks after R.AGE's interview with him in 2008, Jay decided to take a different path. He quit his day job, accepted more freelance offers, and set up his own business.

"Tsubaki Studio is now my bread and butter. Together with my partner, Vivian Toh, we manage the studio and work hard to get more clients, experience and knowledge," says Jay.

"We conceptualise and design visual communications for our clients, and the response has been good. We're looking forward to expanding our business into Singapore."

"I will also be lecturing at a design college from January next year. I will also continue to develop Miss Hua (his T-shirt design line) and hopefully you'll be looking at something cute and refreshing next year."

The brochure was designed with foreign investors in mind. Especially targeted at investors from Korea and the Middle East, a clinical approach to designing the brochure can't go wrong. Hence, we came up with idea that balanced out the lake and the green environment with harmonious blue and green. The main idea for the makeover of My Honeymoon was taken from the movie "Travel the World in 80 Days". A more simplified and cuter version of the movie, the restaurant's design concept now includes a notch up in terms of colours and icons. Better look of the design collaterals are met, with lots of the finer details can be found in the food menu. We would like food enthusiasts to experience the whole idea of a sweet honeymoon when they walk through the menu, which gives a pleasant view of all the food varieties available in the restaurant. My Honeymoon sells sweet traditional Chinese soups and slurpees.

Item #1: The Ashtray – “Green is What You Make of It”
Ashtrays usually contain cigarette ashes and sometimes crumbled pieces of paper or sweet wrappers. If you didn’t already know, this Eco-inspired ashtray we created also works well as an aromatherapy container and a decoration piece. Simply place a scented aromatherapy candle inside and let it burn of jasmine, eucalyptus, lavender or any flavour of your choice.

As consumers become more knowledgeable about environmental issues, the effort to green the environment becomes easier and more fun. Let your garden be the place to begin! Start by recycling old items found in your household and turn them into useful gardening objects. If you have a worn out umbrella, open and hang it upside down to make a flower pot. Make some tiny holes near the tip of the umbrella as airways for excessive water to drip out. All you need is a bit of watering daily and handful bits of nourishment for your plant to grow into a healthy, beautiful ‘umbrella’ of flowers.

Joujou & Shugi Toy Art Mart opened to business in April 2009 and began to garner an increase stream of craft followers as well. Tsubaki Studio have been assigned to Sure Reach by Kensolusi Consulting Sdn Bhd on a long-term basis. As part of the project, Kensolusi and Tsubaki Studio work hand-in-hand, brain-to-brain in delivering design services that meet Sure Reach's business needs. Together we introduced Johan, the superhero that will represent Sure-Reach in most of the company's marketing materials, activities and events.

Something about Sure-Reach
Founded in April 2003, Sure-Reach started its business retailing mainly international courier services. By positioning itself as a ‘business partner’, Sure-Reach worked hard and quickly filled the expectation gaps between principals and end-users.

Sure-Reach provided a highly dedicated and friendly front-end service, with options of flexible pick-up, reporting, analysis, packing and other logistics support services.

Business grew rapidly, and with the support of the Government, Sure-Reach obtained its courier license in the first quarter of 2004. Immediately, Sure-Reach’s expansion plan for a wide scale domestic and nationwide network was able to take flight.

A quick and calculated expansion took place, and today, Sure-Reach has about 50 stations throughout Malaysia.The Group has now expanded its services to express deliveries, same day deliveries, customized logistic, records management and document imaging.
